Del Mar CA– On Sunday, September 7, 2014, at approximately 11:26 am, Sheriff’s Rail Enforcement deputies responded to a train versus pedestrian collision on the railroad tracks at mile post marker 245.7, which is near the intersection of Carmel Valley Road and N. Torrey Pines Road, in the city of San Diego.
A 49 year-old male was struck by a northbound Amtrak passenger train. According to witnesses, as the train was approaching the location, the victim was observed walking northbound in the middle of the railroad tracks along the bluffs. The train operator activated its horn and emergency braking system, but was unable to stop before striking the victim. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
