Leucadia CA– This morning, October 20, 2014, at approximately 11:20, The San Diego County Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement deputies responded to a train versus pedestrian collision on the railroad tracks in the 1000 Block of North Vulcan Avenue, just north of Leucadia Blvd, in the city of Encinitas. A middle aged white male was struck by a southbound Coaster passenger train.
According to witnesses, as the train was approaching the location, the male walked onto the railroad tracks and was struck. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Coaster tried to warn the male by means of a horn and a bell, but was unable to stop prior to the collision. The Sheriff’s Railroad Enforcement Unit will be handling the investigation.
