Carlsbad CA– Early today, October 22, at 6:38 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to a residence located in the 3700 block of Westhaven Drive to investigate a report of a residential burglary that had been interrupted by the homeowner.
The homeowner reported that they came upon the suspect in their garage and after a brief struggle, the suspect ran away from the residence.
A witness gave chase and apprehended the suspect in the 2000 block of Chestnut Avenue near Carlsbad High School. Within five minutes of receiving the call, Officers arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody.
Following the arrest, the suspect was found to be in possession of approximately 7.4 grams of methamphetamine.
The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Jerry Willis of Vista, was arrested for Residential Burglary and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Willis was booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Bail was set at $50,000.
