Carlsbad CA— The 79-year old female driver of the solo vehicle crash that claimed the life of her passenger, on Sunday, died at the hospital on Monday as a result of the injuries sustained in this collision.
On November 9, at 9:34 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to a solo vehicle, fatal traffic collision located in the 2700 block of Monroe Street. The initial investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Monroe Street and for an unknown reason veered across the southbound lanes and collided with trees located on the west side of the roadway. The 79-year old female driver sustained major injuries in the collision and was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital. The passenger who is believed to be a 91-year old male, from Oceanside, sustained fatal injuries during the collision and was declared deceased at the scene.
Monroe Street was closed for several hours on Sunday, in both directions between Marron Road and Hosp Way, for accident investigators to complete their work.
The driver and 91-year old passenger that suffered fatal injuries were the only occupants of the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved in this collision.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the identity of the deceased driver and make all necessary notifications.
