Oceanside CA— On Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. Oceanside Police Department officers responded to a report of a hit and run traffic collision with serious injury at S. Coast Highway and Cassidy Street. Their investigation revealed this was not a traffic collision/hit and run, but was actually an intentional act.
The incident began when a family of three, husband, wife, and their father/father in-law (Michael Dean, 60 years of age), were walking north along S. Coast Hwy. As the group passed the PCH Sports Bar and Grill at 1835 S. Coast Hwy., a male patron who was with two other males, began saying inappropriate comments to Dean’s daughter-in-law.
The family continued past the bar and the patron continued making comments and yelled at them that he was going to hit them.
As the family was crossing at the intersection of Cassidy and Coast Highway, Dean was within the crosswalk and using his cane to assist him, when a white Lexus accelerated through the intersection at a high rate of speed and hit him. The suspect then fled and witnesses followed.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was later identified as a documented Hells Angels motorcycle gang member, Anthony Medvec, who is on federal probation and required to wear a GPS device. At 11:50 p.m., Medvec’s GPS device was showing him at his residence, in the 4900 block of Yuma Avenue.
Officers made a phone call into the residence. Anthony Medvec (DOB 11/01/83) exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
Michael Dean suffered several broken bones and a collapsed lung and was transported to Palomar Hospital. Medvec was arrested for attempted murder.
