Oceanside CA— The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch, effective 3:49 am Tuesday morning, December 2, 2014. The flash flood watch covers the coastal, valley and mountain areas of Southern California and is in effect into early Wednesday morning.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
Deep subtropical moisture will move into Southern California today bringing moderate to heavy rain and the potential for flash flooding for late this morning through early Wednesday morning.
The greatest threat for flash flooding and debris flows will be on steep coastal mountain slopes and in and below the recent burn areas. Moderate to heavy rain in the coastal and valley areas will produce urban flooding, especially in low-lying and other poorly drained areas.
There is some risk for flash flooding west of the mountains should very intense rainfall develop.
Rain will develop this morning and will become heavy at times this afternoon into early this evening. Showers will continue into Wednesday. through early Wednesday.
Rainfall amounts are expected to range from around 1.5 inches at the coast to 2 to 4 inches on the coastal mountain slopes with locally greater amounts.
