Oceanside CA— Arguably the greatest. Definitely one of the most successful. Since 1989, Oceanside High School football coach John Carroll has led his teams to two state titles and more San Diego CIF Section Championships than any other coach. Carroll’s legacy on the sidelines and his dedicated work as a physical education instructor will now forever be remembered.
On Monday, December 8 at 11 a.m., Oceanside High School will host a special ceremony at the school to officially re-name the site’s athletic facility “Simcox Field at John Carroll Stadium.” This past June, the OUSD Board of Education unanimously voted to recognize Coach Carroll with this honor.
Throughout his distinguished career, Coach Carroll has amassed a coaching record of 246-73-6 to go along with a record-setting 12 CIF titles. The top-ranked Pirates (12-0) will shoot for a 13th championship banner this Saturday when they face No. 3 Helix High School for the San Diego Section Open Division crown at Southwestern College.
In addition to the two state championships, Carroll’s teams have reached the CIF playoffs 26 consecutive years, including an unprecedented run of seven consecutive titles. Many of his former players have gone on to play at the collegiate and professional levels, while remaining intensely loyal to the OHS football program.
