Oceanside CA— Earlier today many eyebrows were raised when motorists on I-5 saw a rather sleek 2015 Nissan GT-R with Oceanside Police Department decals speeding along the freeway.
The Oceanside Police Department has entered into a partnership with Mossy Nissan of Oceanside and will be using the new Nissan GT-R on a loaner basis. There is no cost to the City for the use of the vehicle.
The Nissan GT-R is one of the fastest cars off the line ever produced. The vehicle is on loan to the Oceanside Police Department for four months. It is anticipated there will be several uses for the car. It will be used as a recruiting tool and will appear at recruiting events. It will be utilized for public relations.
Since it was actually developed from a popular video game from several years ago, it is hoped it will bridge the gap to younger people interested in pursuing a law enforcement career. It is also seen as a viable tool for community outreach, an aid for school safety instruction as well as traffic safety classes conducted by the Oceanside Police Department at Camp Pendleton.
All of the modifications, fittings and decals were handled by the Fleet Department for the City of Oceanside. There was no cost to the City as these were all covered by Nissan Corporation.
