Pedestrian Dies after being Hit by Vehicle in Carlsbad-Updated

UPDATE: The woman who died has been identified as Nicole Lynch, a 51 year-old resident of Carlsbad. The original story follows:
Carlsbad CA— Early this morning, December 28, at 7:13 a.m., the Carlsbad Police Department received numerous calls regarding a serious injury traffic collision located in the 3800 block of Carlsbad Blvd. Officers responded and found that a 1998 Ford Expedition driven by a 52-year-old male had collided with a female adult pedestrian. Carlsbad Fire Department personnel responded and provided medical treatment to the injured pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Tri City Hospital where she was declared deceased.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that the Ford Expedition was driving northbound on Carlsbad Blvd. north of Tamarack Avenue. The pedestrian appears to have been jogging northbound on the east sidewalk in the 3800 block of Carlsbad Blvd. For an unknown reason the Ford Expedition swerved onto the sidewalk colliding with the pedestrian.
The driver of the 1998 Ford Expedition has been identified as a 52-year-old male from Oceanside. The identity of the deceased female adult pedestrian will be released by the Medical Examiner’s Office after proper notifications have been made.
Traffic investigators are still at the scene investigating. Alcohol or drug intoxication is not suspected to be involved in the collision.
Northbound Carlsbad Blvd. is closed between Tamarack Avenue and Hemlock Avenue. The investigation and scene cleanup is expected to take a few hours. The roadway will be reopened as soon as the investigation and cleanup is completed.
