Update: Jason Stey has died from his injuries. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail are investigating the death of Jason Stey, an inmate, who was being housed at the Vista Detention Facility for a sexual assault that occurred in San Marcos on January 4, 2015. A cause and manner of death will be determined and released by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Vista CA— Shortly after 2:00 p.m. today, January 6, 2015, inmate Jason Stey was found in his cell after he attempted suicide. Stey was in protective custody in the Vista Detention Facility and was discovered during a security check.
Immediate emergency care was rendered, and he was transported to TriCity Medical Center. Stey was subsequently transported to Scripps La Jolla Trauma Center. No word on Steys current condition available at this time.
Sheriff’s Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station arrested Jason Edward Stey, a 27 year-old San Marcos resident, after they responded to a 911 call at 940 W.
