Carlsbad CA— Early this afternoon, February 25, at 1:21 p.m., officers from the Carlsbad Police Department responded to a major injury collision on Carlsbad Boulevard north of Avenida Encinas. Officers found a 2003 Honda S2000 that had been travelling northbound on Carlsbad Blvd. had overturned and come to rest on the east side of Carlsbad Boulevard.
The Honda had collided with a motorcyclist that also had been driving northbound on Carlsbad Blvd. The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle. Carlsbad and Vista Fire Departments responded to the scene to provide medical treatment.
The driver and only occupant of the 2003 Honda S2000 has been identified as a 47-year-old male. He was transported to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
The motorcyclist who was riding a 2003 Harley Davidson has been identified as a 22-year-old male. He was transported to the hospital with major injuries.
Traffic investigators are still at the scene investigating. Alcohol intoxication is not suspected to be involved in the collision.
Northbound Carlsbad Blvd. is closed between Avenida Encinas and Ponto Drive. The investigation and scene cleanup is expected to take a few hours. The roadway will be reopened as soon as the investigation and cleanup is completed.
