Oceanside CA— Use caution when going to the beach and hitting the surf as large waves, some as high as 12 feet, are expected to hit the area over the next few days.
The Nation Weather Service has issued a Coastal Hazard Message effective from 6:00am this morning, Febrary 8, 2015 through 4:00pm Tuesday afternoon.
Waves and surf of 6 to 9 feet are expected with the greatest on Monday with sets to 12 feet. Locations with the highest surf will be along west-facing beaches, especially south of Del Mar.
The impact of the high surf and strong rip currents will create dangerous swimming conditions, especially for inexperienced swimmers.
The outlook for the waves and surf will remain high through Tuesday, then slowly subside Tuesday night and Wednesday.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
