Carlsbad CA— Carlsbad residents can get rid of old paint, pesticides, cleaners and other household hazardous waste for free at the city’s annual household hazardous waste collection event, Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
To participate, residents must make an appointment beginning April 6 via the city’s website, www.carlsbadca.gov/hhw, or appointment line, 760-602-7559. Proof of Carlsbad residency is required. The drop off location will be provided once an appointment is confirmed. Appointments fill up quickly, so residents are encouraged to sign up as early as possible.
At the collection site, residents may dispose of one carload of waste per scheduled appointment (up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds). Residents are asked to make an additional appointment if they have more than one carload of waste, so they comply with laws governing how much household hazardous waste may be transported in one car.
Hazardous items should be transported with caution by placing items in sealed and sturdy containers to ensure that they do not spill.
In addition to the annual household hazardous waste event, residents can schedule a pickup from their homes by calling 800-714-1195. There is a $10 copay for this service.
Residents may also drop off hazardous materials year round at two free drop-off centers:
