UPDATE: The decedent has been identified as Dawn Nichole Yaryan-Bender, a 41 year old married White female who resided in San Marcos.
Encinitas CA— This afternoon, Thursday March 5, 2015, at approximately 4:33 pm, Sheriff’s Rail Enforcement deputies responded to a train versus pedestrian collision on the railroad tracks at mile post marker 235.5, near the 1700 block of North Vulcan Avenue, Encinitas. An unidentified female was struck by a northbound Coaster passenger train.
According to witnesses, as the train was approaching the location, the victim was observed walking towards the railroad tracks. The train operator activated its horn and emergency braking system, but was unable to stop before striking the victim. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Cause of Death/Updated Cause of Death: Multiple blunt force injuries. Manner: Suicide
Commuters on the Coaster trains affected by the closure of the tracks were transported to their destinations by bus with delays close to two hours for those north-bound going to the Oceanside Transit Center.
