Oceanside CA— Students around Oceanside celebrated Earth Day 2015 with a variety of events to commemorate the occasion. At Martin Luther King Middle School, close to eight hundred ‘Green Team Ambassadors’ were honored by the City of Oceanside for their work in the Oceanside Zero Waste School Program.
The students were treated to a special appearance by the host of the television series, Curiosity Quest, Joel Greene. The young ambassadors enjoyed a premier screening of an episode titled ‘Curiosity Quest Goes Green in Oceanside’ featuring Green Team Ambassadors from Oceanside’s Palmquist Elementary School. Colleen Foster, Solid Waste and Recycling Management Analyst with the City of Oceanside was featured in the episode explaining the many ways the city and school ambassadors work to keep Oceanside beaches clean.
At Discovery Isle Child Development Center, the young students celebrated the day making ladybug hats and dressed in ladybug colors in preparation for “Bug Out”. The kids released of thousands of the red and black beetles back into the wild but not before getting an up close look. The youngsters also took part in planting a new vegetable garden at the school.
