Oceanside CA— On April 2, 2015 the Oceanside Police Department graduated twelve people into the Senior Volunteer Patrol Program. These volunteers just finished a two week academy consisting of instruction in a number of areas.
Members of the SVPP perform a variety of functions for the Oceanside Police Department. They are trained to issue parking citations for Handicap violations. Their duties are essentially non-confrontational. They assist officers in the field by doing traffic control at collision scenes. They also perform vacation checks on residences as well as YANA visits. SVPP members contact residents in the YANA program and check their welfare as well as provide companionship and conversation.
The Oceanside Police Department is also accepting applications for those interested in becoming members of the Senior Volunteer Patrol Program. Contact Leo Bates at (760) 435-4763.
