Oceanside CA— Oceanside Police received a call about shots fired at approximately 2:09pm, Wednesday April 1, 2015 at a residence located 4215 Vista Del Rio Way unit #6. The person that made the call was in the residence earlier , then he went next door to use a shower.
“He heard gunshots, then ran back to the residence to find out, what he could, about what might have happened.” reported Oceanside Police Lieutenant, Leonard Cosby, during a press briefing at the scene of the incident. “He thought he saw, what might have been blood, ran out and called police” continued the Lieutenant.
Officers entered the apartment and made their way back to a bedroom where the door was closed. The officers had to force entry into the bedroom where they found two people on the floor.
One was a white female adult, in her mid 20’s, who was deceased with a gunshot wound to the head. The other was a Hispanic, male, also in his mid 20’s with a gunshot wound to the head but still alive.
Officers found a gun on the scene and secured the residence. “The gun was not in either of the peoples hands.” continued Lieutenant Cosby. “Both people were found close together and the weapon was found closer to the male.”
“When officers first arrived on the scene, they believed the male was deceased as well” continued the Lieutenant “then he began to choke.” At that time, officers let paramedics from the Oceanside Fire Department into the bedroom where they performed life saving measures and transported him to an undisclosed hospital.
“Initial reports on the condition of the male in the hospital was that he was doing quite good but the latest I heard was that he is currently on life support” reported the Lieutenant.
The Lieutenant said the initial person that called in the incidents said he thought that he heard three gunshots and it is not believed there have been previous calls to the residence for domestic disputes.
We are looking at this and treating this as, most likely a murder, suicide attempt but we have not ruled out that this could be a double homicide.
Relatives have been notified and the investigation into the shootings is continuing.
