Oceanside CA— On Wednesday May 27, 2015, at 8:52pm, the Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a vehicle collision involving a bicyclist and an SUV on SR-76 east of Towne Center.
According to witness statements the bicyclist was traveling westbound on the right shoulder and veered into the number two lane of eastbound SR-76 toward Frazee Street. An on-coming vehicle saw the bicyclist and maneuvered onto the right shoulder missing the bicyclist. The vehicle following, a 2005 Acura MDX, was unable to avoid the bicyclist and struck him.
The bike rider was pinned beneath the Acura as it came to a stop. Several people stopped to render aide until the Oceanside Fire Department arrived.
The bicyclist, a 54 year old white male, died as a result of his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
The occupants of the Acura were uninjured.
The investigation is continuing and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.
