Update: At approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday, Joseph Knight was taken into custody by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department in Vista. The department would like to thank the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the community for assisting the Carlsbad Police Department in locating and taking Knight into custody. Knight was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
Carlsbad CA— The City of Carlsbad Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate 52-year-old Joseph Knight. Knight was the driver of the 1998 Ford Expedition that collided with the adult female jogging on the sidewalk of Carlsbad Boulevard on December 28, 2014. The jogger was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
As a result of that collision, an arrest warrant for vehicular manslaughter was issued for Knight. Knight is thought to be residing somewhere in the Oceanside area and community members that have information on Knight’s whereabouts are encouraged to call the Police Department at 760-931-2197.
Knight is a 52-year-old, black male, 5’11”, 215 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes.
On December 28, at 7:13 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department received numerous calls regarding a serious injury traffic collision located in the 3800 block of Carlsbad Blvd. Officers responded and found that a 1998 Ford Expedition driven by a 52-year-old male had collided with a female adult pedestrian, Nicole Lynch, a 51 year-old resident of Carlsbad.
Carlsbad Fire Department personnel responded and provided medical treatment to the injured pedestrian. The Lynch was transported by ambulance to Tri-City Hospital where she was declared deceased.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the Ford Expedition was driving northbound on Carlsbad Boulevard north of Tamarack Avenue. The Nicole Lynch appears to have been jogging northbound on the east sidewalk in the 3800 block of Carlsbad Boulevard. For an unknown reason the Ford Expedition swerved onto the sidewalk colliding with the pedestrian.
