Encinitas CA— On May 9, 2015, at about 10:20 a.m., deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Encinitas Station responded to a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and other vehicles at the intersection of North Rancho Santa Fe Road and Peppertree Lane, in Encinitas.
The motorcyclist, a 28 year-old man, was down on the roadway and his motorcycle was on fire. Encinitas Fire Department personnel arrived with American Medical Response paramedics who gave CPR to the downed motorcyclist and drove him to Scripps Hospital in Encinitas, where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation showed: The deceased man and his father were riding motorcycles southbound on N. Rancho Santa Fe Road. As they rounded the curve north of Peppertree Lane, a Hyundai sedan started to turn into their path and both riders swerved to go around the Hyundai on opposite sides.
The victim was ejected onto the oncoming traffic lane after his motorcycle struck the Hyundai and the driver of an Infiniti sport utility vehicle was unable to avoid colliding with the victim. Neither the driver of the Hyundai nor the driver of the Infiniti was injured. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision. The investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Encinitas Station Traffic Division is continuing.
