Oceanside CA— On April 30, 2015, at approximately 2:35 p.m., Oceanside, Vista, and North County Fire units were dispatched for a vegetation fire in the San Luis Rey River, just west of College Blvd. and North River Road in Oceanside.
The first unit arrived approximately 13 minutes later and found a 50 foot by 50 foot vegetation fire on the north side of the San Luis Rey River and in medium vegetation and moving toward heavy vegetation. A direct fire attack was initiated to surround and extinguish the fire. The fire was contained to approximately ¼ acre within 35 minutes after it was reported.
The cause is currently under investigation. This was the second fire in two days at that location. It, too, was extinguished before it could get established within the San Luis Rey River bed.
In addition, two other vegetation fires were responded to by Oceanside, Vista, and Carlsbad units on Thursday at 6:31 p.m. at College and Frazee and this morning at 12:01 a.m. at College and Lake Boulevard, respectively.
The first fire was in a homeless camp and the second fire was on the side of the road, below Carlsbad homes. Both fires were extinguished before they could get established. It is unknown if they are connected to the San Luis Rey River fires.
Early this morning, a person of interest was found by Oceanside Firefighters, near the College and Lake vegetation fire, and questioned by the Carlsbad Police Department. Oceanside Fire Department Investigators are currently investigating both additional fires.
