One in Custody After Chase, Crash on I-5

Carlsbad CA—  Sunday night, May 3rd, at 11:01 p.m., the Carlsbad Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Cadillac CTS at Las Flores and Interstate 5 in Carlsbad, California.  The CTS was observed weaving between lanes northbound Interstate 5 at Las Flores. Once the officer activated his emergency lights and siren the CTS accelerated away northbound Interstate 5 at a high rate of speed.
The CTS failed to yield to the police vehicles with their lights and siren activated.  The CTS continued northbound on Interstate 5 where speeds reached approximately 90 MPH. The driver of the CTS subsequently lost control of the vehicle on Northbound I-5 just north of Las Pulgas. The CTS spun out in the left lanes of the freeway and ultimately collided with the right shoulder curb.  Colliding with the curb caused the vehicle to be launched backwards into the brush.
With the assistance of the California Highway Patrol the only occupant of the CTS was taken into custody only after he self-inflicted wounds to his arms with a sharp instrument.
A check of the registration of the CTS revealed that the vehicle was reported as a stolen vehicle from San Diego on May 2nd, 2015.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was positively identified as a white male adult named Jason Michael Shall, 34 years old, of San Diego.
The investigation at the scene has been concluded. Shall was treated at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in San Clemente for his injuries. He was subsequently booked into the Vista Detention Facility for possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading, and driving while under the influence of drugs.
