Bonsall CA— On Thursday April 30, 2015, at 6:25 p.m., deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department were notified of a stolen work truck entering the Bonsall area. The truck had been stolen out of the City of Vista and the owner was relaying the vehicle’s location using a GPS tracking device.
Deputies from the Fallbrook Command and the Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter located the vehicle leaving the 5200 block of South Mission Road in the Bonsall area. A short pursuit followed on west bound SR-76 with speeds reaching 70 mph. The pursuit went for approximately 3 miles and came to an end at the intersection of SR-76 and East Vista Way. The suspect’s vehicle became disabled after clipping the guard rail.
The suspect ran from the vehicle into the heavy brush but was quickly taken into custody. The driver and sole occupant has been identified as 28-year-old, Aldair Ivan Cervantes.
Cervantes was booked into the Vista Detention Facility. He faces the following charges; vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, felony evading and resisting arrest. Cervantes suffered minor scrapes from running through the brush, no deputies or civilians were injured.
