Oceanside CA— This morning, Monday, May 25, 2015 at 11:40 the Oceanside Fire Department Lifeguard Division took a report of a 6ft shark swimming approximately 400 yards off of Oceanside Harbor Beach at 1400 N Pacific St. This was reported by a recreational vessel.
The Oceanside Fire Department Lifeguard Division has taken the following precautions to ensure the safety of our beach goers. Lifeguard and OPD vessels have extensively searched the area. The area was also searched by helicopter using Reach Air with an Oceanside lifeguard on board. Nothing was located by sea or air.
On Sunday, a shark encounter was captured on video by a paddleboarder off Sunset Beach in Orange County.
The Oceanside Fire Department Lifeguard Division said that sightings are rare along our coastline. Additionally, when they are seen, these animals are typically just passing through our waters.
