Update: The identity of the driver involved in the fatal accident that occurred Sunday in Carlsbad has been released by the San Diego County Coroner as Jacob Marine Lesu, 27, of Oceanside.
Carlsbad CA— On Sunday May 10, at 5:30 a.m., officers from the Carlsbad Police Department responded to a fatal collision on Rancho Santa Fe Road at Camino Junipero. Officers found a 2007 BMW sedan that had been traveling southbound on Rancho Santa Fe Road and for an unknown reason crossed the raised center median causing the vehicle to roll at least one time and ultimately collide with a traffic signal pole located on the northeast corner of Rancho Santa Fe Road and Camino Junipero.
The adult male driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. An adult female passenger was transported to the hospital with major injuries.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting in this investigation. The identity of the deceased adult male driver will be released by the Medical Examiner’s Office after the next of kin has been advised.
Investigators are investigating the role alcohol intoxication and excessive speed may have played in this collision.
