Accidents Involving Bicycles Hospitalize Two

San Diego County CA— Accidents involving bicycles in San Diego County have sent two people in the hospital with head injuries, on Sunday.
In San Marcos at approximately 9:40am., deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Double Peak Drive and San Elijo Road in the city of San Marcos. The preliminary investigation revealed that a mountain bike was being ridden by a 52-year-old male from the top of Double Peak Park downhill towards San Elijo Road. While he was riding down the hill he applied his brakes to slow down and his body was thrown over the front of the bike. He fell onto the road hitting his head on the ground.
He was not wearing a helmet and suffered a serious head injury as a result of the collision. The bicyclist was transported to Palomar Medical Center for treatment. The incident investigation is being conducted by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, San Marcos Traffic Unit.
In Solana Beach at approximately 1:40 Sunday afternoon, a 68-year-old female and her husband, visiting from El Segundo, California were walking from the Holiday Inn Express, 621 South Highway 101, Solana Beach to the Brigantine Restaurant, 3263 Camino Del Mar, Del Mar. The couple were crossing Camino Del Mar eastbound on the southwest corner of Camino Del Mar and Border Avenue.
The eastbound walk signal lamp was illuminated. A few steps from the west curb, as the woman crossed the southbound designated bicycle lane, she was struck by a bicycle. The woman was thrust into the air and landed on the left side of her head on the ground. She was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where she was admitted to the trauma ward.
