Oceanside CA— All are welcome to attend a community open house Thursday, June 25, 2015, 5-7 pm, to provide your input on the Oceanside Coast Highway Corridor Study. As a member of the Oceanside community and user of Coast Highway, your continued input and feedback is critical to the success of this project.
The purpose of the meeting will be to present project alternatives for segments along Coast Highway and to obtain the community’s input on these alternatives. There will also be an update on the study progress and highlights from previous community meetings.
This workshop is designed to be interactive in order to hear from the community and ensure the community’s input is incorporated in this study. Multiple stations will be set up around the room for participants to visit and obtain information and comment on project alternatives.
In 2009, the City of Oceanside adopted the Coast Highway Vision and Strategic Plan. This plan serves as a blueprint for the revitalization and enhancement of the Coast Highway corridor between Harbor Drive in the north and Buena Vista Lagoon in the south. The Vision and Strategic Plan includes several recommendations to transform Coast Highway from an auto-oriented thoroughfare into a “complete street” that serves all modes of transportation from automobiles to pedestrians to bicyclists and transit vehicles.

In 2014, the City of Oceanside initiated a study and design project for the street enhancements and changes proposed as part of the Vision and Strategic Plan. This project, called the Coast Highway Corridor Study, will assess existing and future transportation conditions along the corridor and on surrounding streets in order to identify the preferred approach to implementing the recommendations contained in the 2009 Coast Highway Vision and Strategic Plan.
Over the course of this 20-month project, the Coast Highway Corridor Study effort will focus on assessing projects that are consistent with the Vision and Strategic Plan and address the needs of the community through:

  1. Improving pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure with a focus on safety and comfort
  2. Enhancing access to transit
  3. Modifying the roadway with roundabouts to improve traffic flow
  4. Increasing the supply of parking to improve access to businesses along the corridor
  5. Encouraging economic development through improvements in mobility and the public streetscape
