DUI Possible Factor in Serious Motorcycle Accident

San Marcos CA— At approximately 7:30 Sunday evening, May 31, 2015, a 60 year-old woman driving a Toyota Prius was eastbound on East Mission Rd in San Marcos. Near the 1300 block of East Mission, the woman made a left turn in front of a motorcycle traveling west. The motorcyclist was unable to stop or swerve out of the way and struck the side of the Prius.
The 42-year-old male driver of the motorcycle and his 35-year-old female passenger were both ejected from the motorcycle onto the roadway.
The unidentified male was transported by the San Marcos Fire Department and air lifted to Sharp Hospital San Diego with serious injuries. The female was also transported to Scripts La Jolla Hospital for injuries sustained in the collision.
Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Prius was under the influence of alcohol while driving the vehicle. She was arrested under suspicion of driving while intoxicated and causing serious injury and booked into Vista Jail.
The investigation is being handled by the San Marcos Sheriff Traffic Division.
