Oceanside CA— In the early morning on Monday June 15, 2015, a sewer blockage occurred near the intersection of Mesa Drive and El Camino Real. The Oceanside Sewer Department is onsite performing the necessary bypass and recovery while investigations into the cause of the blockage and planned repairs continue.
Initial discharges are being contained in the Loma Alta Slough and will be treated at the La Salina Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Loma Alta Slough connection to the beach is currently closed and there is no discharge onto the beach.
At 2:00 pm yesterday, it had been estimated that approximately 150,000 gallons of wastewater had overflowed into the Loma Alta Creek and Slough. City crews worked through the night and were able to contain and divert the flows into a nearby sanitary sewer.
