Oceanside CA— As part of an ongoing commitment to improve beach area facilities and associated infrastructure, the City of Oceanside is proposing a new project adjacent to the Junior Seau Amphitheater. The subject site presently accommodates public restrooms, Oceanside Police Department (OPD) operations, and beach maintenance facilities. This area has many overlapping and competing uses, including pedestrian beach access, solid waste disposal, a sewer lift station and maintenance access, beach vendor storage, an OPD substation, and beach maintenance access.
The restrooms do not provide enough fixtures to accommodate beach goers and the sewer system needs to be replaced. Beach access could be improved to serve persons with disabilities and include a wider, shallower staircase for families. Storage containers and trash dumpsters could also be enclosed and hidden from public view. Landscaping, public gathering areas, and storm water run off treatment could also be improved.
As part of this effort, the City is seeking input from residents and others who spend time in the beach area. Staff has posted three possible design options and a brief survey here. Please take a moment to view the existing site conditions exhibit, evaluate the three design options, and fill out the survey. Responses will be accepted through July 8, 2015.
In addition, beach goers and residents are invited to a Community Outreach Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 300 North Coast Highway, north building, 2nd floor. The City Council is expected provide direction to staff in August.
