Oceanside CA— No one was injured after a suspected shoplifter opened fire on Loss Prevention officers inside the Oceanside Target store, 2555 S. El Camino Real, shortly after 1:10pm, Thursday June 11, 2015.
“Loss prevention gets the guy and asks him to accompany them to their office inside the store” explains Oceanside Police Lieutenant, Leonard Cosby “When they got up by the front of the store, the suspect started fighting with them.” continued the Lieutenant, “the suspect then pulled a gun and fired shots at one of loss prevention guys. The suspect then ran out of the store and got into a black BMW sedan.”

The lieutenant said there was a female accomplice but it was unknown if she was inside the store or outside waiting for the suspect. Witnesses describe the man as about 5′ 9″ wearing black shorts and a black tee shirt, possibly hispanic.
Lieutenant Cosby stated that loss prevention told him the items being shoplifted were computer stylus pens and “some other strange items.” Police are currently going through the stores security video and hope to have some images of the suspects and their car later today. We will have more information as it becomes available.
There were approximately 100 shoppers in the Target store when the shots were fired and as of 2:15pm, the store was still closed. Oceanside and Carlsbad police responded to the incident.
