Oceanside CA— Thursday night, July 23, 2015 at approximately 11:21 pm a 67-year-old male from Santa Fe Springs was driving his 1990 Chevy pickup northbound on 1-5 north of Harbor Drive at an unknown speed.
Due to road construction in the area traffic was at a complete stop. The driver failed to notice traffic in front of him was stopped and collided into the rear of a 2002 Volvo big rig hauling 80,000 lbs of tomatoes.
The pickup became lodged under the trailer of the big rig and the driver was pronounced dead on scene.
The driver of the big rig, a 53-year-old male from Tarzana was not injured in the collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in this collision.The accident remains under investigation.
