Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle in Encinitas
On Saturday evening at about 8:10 p.m., Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff Station were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at the southbound Interstate 5 On-Ramp at Encinitas Boulevard in Encinitas.
Upon their arrival, Deputies found a 55-year-old female lying unconscious in the roadway. Witnesses at the scene advised the female had been struck by a 2006 Toyota Tundra truck as she walked across the on-ramp.
The driver of the truck stopped and remained at the scene and was cooperative with Sheriff’s Traffic Investigators. Preliminary investigation revealed the female appears to have crossed the eastbound freeway on-ramp against the solid red light.
The truck was making a left turn on to the freeway and had a green arrow. The driver of the truck did not see the female until after she was struck. The Encinitas Fire Department and Paramedics arrived on scene and treated the victim for what appears to be a possible fractured left femur and head trauma. The victim was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for further evaluation and treatment.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision which shut down the southbound on-ramp to I-5 for a short time.
