Carlsbad CA— On September 16 at 12:40 p.m., a motorist called the City of Carlsbad Police Department about a reckless driver on El Camino Real at Palomar Airport Road.
The witness further reported that the reckless driver was sideswiping cars. The vehicle was described as a white Ford sedan with Arizona plates.
Earlier in the day, at 9:31 a.m., the City of San Diego Police Department had released a bulletin for a stolen vehicle matching the description of the reckless driver’s vehicle.
Carlsbad Officers caught up to the driver at El Camino Real and Cannon Road. Officers activated their overhead lights and siren in an effort to stop the driver and the driver failed to yield.
The driver continued to drive at a high rate of speed northbound on El Camino Real and officers pursued the vehicle as the driver turned westbound on Kelly Drive. Officers discontinued the pursuit.
At Kelly Drive and Park Drive the driver collided with the guard rail, disabling the vehicle. There were no injuries associated with this incident.
Officers arrested 45-year-old Robert Wallace, of San Diego, for auto theft and felony evading. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
