San Marcos CA— San Marcos deputies received a call of a vehicle roll-over collision near Craven Road and S. Twin Oaks Valley Road, near Cal State University – San Marcos. Deputies were en route when they received an update that the driver, later identified as Kevin Meza, DOB: 01/03/1995, was seen running away from the accident.
A witness provided a direction of travel and ran after Meza. Deputies arrived at the scene and discovered the vehicle involved in the accident was a reported stolen vehicle. Deputies established a large perimeter at the apartment complex located at the end of Rush Drive.
Cal State University San Marcos Police (CSUSM-PD) were notified and their officers responded to assist. Deputies were conducting a search of the area when they received information that CSUSM-PD, Officer Patrick O’Brien, had Meza detained at gun point. Deputies arrived and handcuffed Meza.
Deputies conducted a curbside line up at the scene, and Meza was positively identified as the subject that crashed and ran away from the vehicle.
San Marcos Fire responded to medically evaluate Meza. He was transported to Palomar Medical Center for treatment due to a wound on his head, presumably sustained in the crash. Deputies searched the vehicle and found drug paraphernalia. Meza was also in possession of a backpack that contained drugs, drug paraphernalia, and unreported stolen property.
Meza is a known local offender.
