Oceanside CA— Today, October 22, 2015 at 7:03 a.m. Oceanside Police Dispatchers received multiple phone calls regarding a collision between a vehicle and a bicycle. The initial location was given as South Coast Highway and Oceanside Boulevard.
Officers located the collision at the driveway to 1510 S. Coast Highway – the Oceanside RV Park. The involved vehicles were a white Dodge Ram 3500 pick-up and a black bicycle. The bicyclist was lodged under the pick-up and appeared to have serious injuries. Oceanside Fire Department personnel arrived and immediately began life-saving measures. The bicyclist (12 year old male – not identified at this time, pending notification of next of kin) was taken to a landing zone near SR 78 and Jefferson and then flown via helicopter to Tri-City Medical Center. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The preliminary investigation revealed the white pick-up was pulling out of the driveway at 1510 S. Coast Highway and about to make a left turn to go south. As the vehicle began to move, the driver heard a thump on the side of his vehicle. Not having seen anything, he continued his turn, but pulled into an adjacent driveway at 1512 S. Coast to see what had happened. He found the bicyclist lodged under his vehicle.
Driver of the Dodge Ram was David Michael Palpant of Florida
The name of the bicyclist has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
