Carlsbad CA— Saturday evening, December 26, 2015, at approximately 6:53 p.m., City of Carlsbad police officers responded to the area of Melrose Drive and Rancho Bravado to a call for a vehicle that was just stolen.
The vehicle was tracked west to I-5 and then southbound. Carlsbad Police, with the assistance of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, San Diego Police Department, California Highway Patrol and ASTREA, tracked the vehicle south, on I-5, for approximately 46 miles.
San Diego County Sheriff’s Department deputies deployed spike strips in the area of H Street and I-5 in Chula Vista. The suspect was later identified as Jana Elaine Jones, D.O.B 10/02/1981, from Anaheim CA.
Jones crossed the strips damaging the vehicle’s tires. Jones continued to flee south on I-5 for a short distance, eventually stopping on I-5.
At approximately 7:40 p.m., Jones was taken into custody without injury.
Jones was booked into the Vista Detention Facility for 2800.1(a) C.V.C. – Felony Evading, 10851(a) C.V.C. – Auto Theft, 496(a) P.C. – Possession of Stolen Property and 148(a)(1) P.C. – Resisting Arrest.
