Correction: The first drill is being held at Cal State San Marcos, not San Marcos High School as previously reported. There is no drill at San Marcos High School
San Diego County CA— The San Diego County Sheriffs Department has two ‘Active Shooter’ drills planned in the coming days. The first drill is set for January 6, 2016 at Cal State San Marcos from 9:00am to 4:00pm. The second is set for Saturday January 9, 2016 at Fallbrook High School also from 9:00am to 4:00pm. The drills are not open to the public.
Deputies from the San Marcos, Vista, Encinitas Sheriff’s Stations and Valley Center Sheriff’s Substation, as well as officers from various law enforcement agencies will participate in the drill at Cal State San Marcos. The drill is being organized by Cal State San Marcos Police.
Deputies from the Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation, as well as officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and North County Fire Protection District will be participating in the Fallbrook drill.
Below is a video from the Active Shooter drill held in June of 2014, at San Marcos High School.

The drills will involve sounds of gunfire to simulate where a gunman is shooting at people. Teams of deputies and officers will make their way through the campus with mock firearms, practicing how they would track down a gunman and evacuation procedures. The goal is to prepare law enforcement personnel so they know what to expect in the chaos of a real shooting scenario.
There will be road signs informing the public of the training. Public notification will also be done through the Sheriff’s newsletter and Twitter page.
CSUSM and Fallbrook High School Union District will be emailing students, faculty and staff about the drill, as well as campus street and facility closures.
