Oceanside CA— At its January 20, 2016, meeting, the MiraCosta College Board of Trustees acted to expand the college’s smoking policy, Administrative Procedure 3570 (AP), to include the prohibition of other tobacco products, e-cigarettes and vaporizers on campus.
Effective immediately, MiraCosta College students, employees, and visitors to the campuses may only use tobacco products and/or vapor-producing implements in their personal vehicles. All other use of tobacco or tobacco products is prohibited, including the use of electronic cigarettes and vapor-producing paraphernalia.
Additionally, tobacco products and vapor-producing paraphernalia may not be sold at any campus site, no tobacco-related advertising or sponsorship will be permitted on MiraCosta College property or at college-sponsored events, and no tobacco or vapor products may be pictured in publications produced by MiraCosta College.
The revised policy came about through a collaborative effort between the college’s Academic Senate, Classified Senate, Associated Student Government and the college’s Administrative Council.
“The Associated Student Senate supported the revised smoking policy so that our students can learn in a safe and comfortable environment without having to deal or think of second-hand smoke and other smoking-related issues,” said ASG President Brayan Astorga.
The college’s previous policy, adopted in May 2009, only prohibited the use of tobacco products on campus.
