San Marcos CA— On February 9th 2016, at approximately 12:45pm, deputies from the Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit responded to a train vs. pedestrian collision on the railroad tracks at milepost marker 118.9, which is the pedestrian crossing at Marcos Street, in the city of San Marcos.
A westbound Sprinter Train was traveling at approximately 45 miles per hours when the operator observed a pedestrian next to the tracks. The Sprinter train had activated its emergency braking
system upon first seeing the pedestrian, but was unable to stop prior to the collision. The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
