Arrested for Assault With A Deadly Weapon

Carlsbad CA— This afternoon, February 7 at 12:26 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department received a call about a man who approached a citizen and stated that someone was following him in the 1700 block of Nerine Way.
While officers responded, citizens reported that the man went into a nearby residence in the 6400 block of Lilium Ln. Citizens reported a fight as the resident attempted to keep the man out of his home.
Officers arrived and located the family who had locked themselves behind their master bedroom door. Family members told officers that the suspect took a butcher knife from their home and threatened them with the weapon. A resident also related that the suspect had something in his hand, possibly a firearm. The suspect was believed to be in another bedroom, down the hall from the family. Officers positioned themselves between the suspect and the family, as other officers escorted the family to safety.
Officers established communications with the suspect and he was taken into custody after he came out of the bedroom. Officers found a butcher knife in the room the suspect occupied.
While at the Carlsbad Police Department, the arrested subject attempted to get out of a police car and resisted officers as they attempted to prevent his escape.
The 30-year-old suspect, Alejandro Gutierrez of National City, Calif., was booked into the Vista Detention Facility for assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, brandishing a weapon, resisting a peace officer, and attempted escape.
