Oceanside CA— At 12:30 p.m. on February 25, a cargo delivery truck from CV Pickup and Delivery Service crashed into a light standard on the northbound lane of Via Rancho Road, between Ivey Ranch Road and Arlington Drive, in Oceanside.
The severely damaged front-end and right side panel of the truck was a result of knocking down the pole, taking out irrigation controls, landscaping, a power control box, and a eucalyptus tree.
“The driver apparently suffered some kind of medical condition,” said a police traffic officer, although the male driver was able to talk to arriving officers. He was later transported to Tri-City Medical Center.
It took about an hour to shut off the power and removed the truck wreckage. While SDG&E and city crews were busy removing debris from the roadway, concern was for the students from both nearby King Middle School and El Camino High School, which would be released shortly.
By the time school was let out, students were allowed to walk to their nearby neighborhoods on the north side of Via Rancho Road, but the entire block was still closed to vehicular traffic.
