Oceanside CA— Friday afternoon, February 19, 2016 at approximately 3:30 PM, officers from the Oceanside Police Department responded to the 3600 block of Cerro Avenue in Oceanside. A third party called police and reported a woman had been set on fire by a male. Officers and paramedics arrived to find the woman with significant burn injuries.
The victim was treated on scene by Oceanside Fire Department paramedics and transported to UCSD Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Officers also contacted the victim’s boyfriend, Ricardo Gonzalez, at the residence. Gonzalez had minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
Detectives responded to the scene and spoke with Gonzalez; he was cooperative and accompanied investigators to the Oceanside Police Department to provide a statement. It was ultimately learned the victim and Gonzalez became involved in a physical altercation in the front yard of the residence.
At some point during the incident, Gonzalez retrieved a gasoline can from the garage and began pouring gasoline on the victim. Gonzalez then lit the victim on fire using a lighter. Gonzalez was charged with attempted murder and one count of felony domestic violence. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility
