2016 Accenture IRONMAN 70.3 – Oceanside, April 2

Oceanside CA— One of more than 90 events in the global IRONMAN 70.3 Series, IRONMAN 70.3 California- Oceanside is set for Saturday, April 2, 2016. The course leads athletes along a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run on a course that utilizes the beautiful city of Oceanside.
Athletes begin their day with a single-loop swim in the calm and protected waters of Oceanside Harbor. Once out of the water, participants will embark upon a single-loop bike course along the California coastline to San Clemente before dropping down into the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and then swinging back to Oceanside Pier.

The double-loop run course winds along Oceanside Pier and then out to Oceanside’s flat beachfront path known as “The Strand,” where miles of sandy beaches provide beautiful views. Offering a professional prize purse of $60,000, the race also awards a total of 30 age-group qualifying slots for the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, taking place in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia on September 4, 2016.
More than 3,000 athletes are schedule to compete with the oldest, Gerry Forman at age 77 and the youngest, Catania Calavitta at 18 years-old.
Pro athletes include; Sebastian Kienle, Eneko Llanos, 2013 Oceanside Champion, Andy Potts along with 2014 Oceanside Champion Heather Wurtele and defending champion, Heather Jackson .
IRONKIDS
The IRONKIDS Fun Run will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Oceanside Pier Area. Children between the ages of 3-14 will participate in a ½ mile or 1 mile fun run course. For more information, click here.

Where are the best places to watch the IRONMAN 70.3 California- Oceanside?

Swim: At the North End of Transition by the Harbor Pelican Deli Mart.
Bike: The majority of the bike course is on Camp Pendleton and not accessible. Spectators can view the transition area along Harbor Drive.
Run: This is a two loop run course. Spectators can view the athletes heading in and out of transition. It is a 1 mile walk to the pier / finish line area. Spectators an walk on the sidewalk at Strand / Boardwalk and walk part of the run course.
How can I track an athlete: Live tracking is only available on race day. Please visit ironman.com and click on ‘Live Coverage’ at the top of the page and select the correct race. Select ‘Athlete Tracker’ and you can search by bib number or last name.
