Oceanside CA— On Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., the City of Oceanside will hold a Solar Celebration, in conjunction with PFMG Solar, LLC, to launch the Solar Project approved by the Oceanside City Council in August 2015. The celebration will take place at Oceanside Fire Station #7, 3350 Mission Avenue. Solar power arrays comprised of parking canopies, elevated shade structures and roof mounted systems will be constructed at 5 locations including:
- Oceanside Police Headquarters
- Melba Bishop Recreation Center
- El Corazon Senior Center
- Oceanside City Operations Center
- Fire Station #7
When complete, the arrays will generate 840 kW of power, offsetting approximately 74% of the energy used at these facilities. The savings to the City’s general fund, over the 25 year life of the project, is expected to total $8 million.
The City paid no upfront capital costs for the project and will receive the added benefit of shaded parking structures at several of the locations.
The estimated 25 year solar energy production of 1.45 kWh is the equivalent of reducing 478 tons of green house gasses annually, planting 725 trees, or taking 85 cars off the roads for a year. In other words, this project will generate enough electricity to power over 163 homes for an entire year.
