San Diego County CA— Potential damaging surf and moderate coastal flooding is expected Monday March 7, 2016 into Tuesday morning, March 8 . Two large westerly swells will generate high surf through Tuesday.
The first swell will bring high surf Sunday with an even larger swell bringing even higher surf Monday and Tuesday with the potential for damaging surf and beach erosion. Therefore, a high surf warning and a coastal flood advisory have been issued for Monday and Tuesday.
The combination of very large surf, gusty winds and projected high tides near 6 feet Monday and Tuesday will increase the risk of moderate coastal flooding near times of high tide Monday into Tuesday morning. Swell and surf will lower late Tuesday.
The coastal flood advisory in effect from 6:00 am Monday to noon on Tuesday with high surf advisory now in effect until noon Monday.
The high surf warning is in effect from noon Monday to 4:00 pm Tuesday. A coastal flood advisory has also been issued. This coastal flood advisory is in effect from 6 am Monday to noon Tuesday.

• Swell: 7 to 9 ft from 280 degrees through Sunday. A second larger swell of 14 to 18 ft from 285 degrees will build Monday into Tuesday.
• Surf: 4 to 7 feet with occasional sets of 8 feet Sunday. Even higher surf of 8 to 15 feet on Monday and Tuesday with sets of 15 to 18 feet in northern Orange county and southern San Diego
  county Monday.
• Coastal flooding: The combination of very large surf, gusty winds and projected high tides in excess of 6 feet will increase the threat of coastal flooding into beach parking lots and roadways near times of high tide Monday into Tuesday morning. There is an increased risk of large sneaker waves that can suddenly wash people off of beaches and rock jetties. Increased risk of significant beach erosion Monday and Tuesday and a threat of damage to coastal structures such as piers.
• Impacts: High surf and strong rip currents will create dangerous swimming conditions. Waves may over-top jetties and sea walls. moderate coastal flooding and beach erosion will be
  possible Sunday night through Tuesday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: A high surf warning indicates that dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions and deadly rip currents.
