Del Mar CA— This afternoon, March 11, 2016, at 12:10pm , deputies from the Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit responded to a train vs. pedestrian collision on the railroad tracks at milepost marker 244.2, which is located on the bluffs in the city of Del Mar.
A southbound Amtrak Train was traveling at approximately 50 miles per hour when the engineer observed a pedestrian running onto the tracks. The Amtrak train was unable to stop and collided into the pedestrian. After the collision, the train’s emergency braking system was applied.
The pedestrian suffered unknown injuries and was transported to the hospital. The Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit will be handling the investigation. Since February 2nd 2015 through March 11, 2016 there have been 17 train collisions on the railroad tracks in the San Diego County Sheriff’s jurisdiction.
