Oceanside CA— Shortly before 8:00pm Sunday, April 10, 2016, Oceanside Police and Firefighters responded to the 200 block of Holiday Way for a reported serious injury traffic collision involving a seven year-old pedestrian.
Officers arrived to find the conscious child in the street suffering from a chest wound described as an avulsion type / bruising injury.
Preliminary investigation reveals the child was at a parked ice cream truck that was parked facing northbound on Holiday Way. He at some point darted out into the street from behind the truck and collided with the side of a vehicle traveling southbound at about 30 mph. The force of the collision caused a dent to the front fender of the vehicle.
The child was airlifted to Rady’s Childrens Hospital and is expected to survive.
