Carlsbad CA— On Wednesday night, May 25, at 10:46 p.m., Officers from the Carlsbad Police Department responded to Alga Road near Corintia Street regarding a report of a single vehicle collision with the vehicle on fire. Upon arrival, Officers found a 1997 Toyota Camry with extensive front-end damage resting up against a large tree in the center median of Alga Road.
The engine compartment of the vehicle had caught fire and was emitting heavy smoke. As the Officers approached the vehicle, they found a single male occupant unconscious and pinned in the driver’s seat. Three Carlsbad Police Officers worked quickly to free the man from the burning wreckage and extinguish the flames.
Carlsbad and San Marcos Fire Departments responded to the scene to provide medical treatment.
The driver and sole occupant of the 1997 Toyota Camry has been identified as a 27-year-old male. He was transported to Palomar Hospital with major injuries.
Traffic investigators responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.
