Updated: The suspect in this fatal hit and run has been identified as 29-year-old Oceanside resident, Esteysi Sanchez. Sanchez was identified by officers as the driver of the vehicle and arrested for felony DUI, felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter. She was booked into the Vista Detention Facility. The victim has been identified as Jack Ray Tenhulzen, 67 of Oceanside.
Oceanside CA— This morning, June 27th, at approximately 6:20 AM, Oceanside Police Officers responded to a report of a traffic collision in the 100 block of Magdalena Dr.
Witnesses reported that a woman (the driver) had walked away from the scene while officers were responding. Officers arrived and determined the victim was deceased and the driver of the vehicle had fled on foot.
Initial investigation revealed the victim was walking in the 4000 block of Mission Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle. The force of the collision caused the victim to go through the windshield of the vehicle and become lodged in the front passenger seat.
The driver of the vehicle continued driving to the 100 block of Magdalena Dr. with the victim still in the vehicle.
Officers were able to locate the driver a short time later; it appears alcohol may have been a factor.
Officers from the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating and more information will be provided when it becomes available.
